We are a group of UUSS members and friends who come together to foster environmental awareness and action. We support efforts aimed at energy conservation, sustainable agriculture, environmental legislation, education, and advocacy.

We began in 2006 as part of a national UUA call to action in response to environmental challenges. Since then, we’ve sponsored more than 26 projects. Our UUSS congregation was recognized for its advocacy efforts at the California Interfaith Power and Light Third Annual Energy Oscars.

We support UUA Green Sanctuary goals to:

  • Build awareness of environmental issues
  • Encourage personal life style changes
  • Engage in community action on environmental issues
  • Strengthen the connection between spiritual practice and earth consciousness
  • Work to heal environmental injustice for all

To meet these goals we:

  • Host Green Sanctuary speakers and events on a broad range of topics
  • Maintain the UUrth Community Garden, where members and friends of UUSS, RE classes, and the community can have plots to raise fruits and vegetables
  • Work with outside groups to co-sponsor speakers and events in the broader community
