Spiritual Grounding for Leadership Program, April, 2011
It’s not so much about getting people to do what you want them to do as it is reflecting back to them what they really want.
It’s not so much about you being who people want you to be as it is being fully what you already are.
It’s not so much about doing as it is about being. And it’s not so much about being anything particular as it is being more alive in the flex and flow of life.
Sri Nisargadatta described this flux and flow like this: “Wisdom says I am nothing. Love says I am everything. Between these two my life flows.”
Does this make any sense to you? If so, you might be interested in a program called Spiritual Grounding for Leadership. It’s about being in that flux and flow and being in a leadership capacity at the same time.
Spirituality traditionally focuses on our inner life while leadership focuses outward on helping a group do something. This program focuses on all the lovely ways this distinction breaks down.
This Fall the program will start its third year. It’s still a work in progress, but we’re having a good time along the way.
The Program has four facets:
Spiritual practice – maintaining a personal daily spiritual practice.
Group – meeting with a group I facilitate for a year. It meets several Wednesdays each month and all day Saturday every other month.
Leadership – being in formal or informal leadership roles in the congregation for two years
Mentoring – serving as mentor for someone in the group and mentee to another.
