The Unitarian Universalist Society of Sacramento (UUSS) Senior High Youth Group (SHYG) meets regularly on Sundays in Room 12 at 9:30 am from September through May for worship, fellowship, and the occasional “field trip” for coffee or Jamba Juice to enliven the conversation.
UUSS youth group is a safe and welcoming place for teens supported by the dedicated guidance of a team of trained and experienced adult advisors who are all members of the UUSS congregation. UUSS youth have been described as “respectful, caring, and supportive.”
The UUSS SHYG contains all six components necessary for a balanced youth program: worship, youth-adult relations, community building, social action, learning and leadership. The group follows a flexible format from planned leader-led discussions to spur-of-the-moment youth-led dialogue. Some topics include life as a Unitarian Universalist youth, current events, social event planning and popular movies.
UUSS youth members take on leadership roles through community service projects and meet for other social events.
The youth group makes connections with our adult congregation by attending Intergenerational Services, assisting church committees such as Religious Education, Green Sanctuary and Membership, and by nominating a Youth Member for the Board of Trustees.
No advance registration required. If after two visits a teen would like to participate regularly, there is a Religious Education registration form. We ask that all parents or guardians of teens provide us with important contact and other information on this form so we may serve them responsibly as we carry out the mission of the Religious Education (RE) Program. Youth who are interested in joining the UUSS youth program, may come on Sunday mornings at 9:15 to sign in at the Religious Education (RE) table. Please dress comfortably and be prepared to enjoy yourself and meet wonderful new friends.
