Barbara GardnerChair of UUMPF and member of the oversight committee, Barbara joined UUSS in 1997. She loves not only that it is her spiritual home, but the quality of the community it provides. She is currently retired after working as a neurologist at Kaiser for 24 years, and is enjoying the ‘giving back’ phase of her life as well as the opportunity to indulge more fully in long term interests. She’s been very involved at UUSS and has served as a worship leader and member of the lay ministry. She has taught OWL (UUSS’s human sexuality course) to our junior high members, serves on Doug’s Committee on Ministry, was the chief coordinator for Searching for the Future, and chair of the follow-up group Vision Into Action. She’s been a member of a ministry circle, part of one of Doug’s Spiritual Journey groups, a member of the nominating committee, and a participant in multiple NWEI (Northwest Earth Institute) courses at UUSS. She loves UUSS, outdoor activities, and fabric art. She and her husband, Don Thornberry, have three children, all of whom are grown and out forging their own paths in the world. |

Colene SchlaepflerWe first visited UUSS before we moved to Folsom 10 years ago After moving we tried most of the churches close to us and decided UUSS was worth the drive. One of the first things I noticed about the campus was the oak grove and the amount of space not being used. "Must be a wealthy church" I thought. I soon discovered not wealth but lack of a plan to use that lovely space is the reason our land is not used more efficiently. I had some experience with land planning earlier in life. The planning process is a divergence from my career as a Marriage and Family Therapist, and I enjoy the challenge of this project. I think it is very important to the future of our church both aesthetically and practically. |
