Pushing the Envelope and Stretching our Comfort Zones

Our faith has been stretching people beyond their comfort zones ever since William Ellery Channing stirred up a hornet’s nest of reaction. Exactly 200 years ago today, he preached his Unitarian manifesto about human worth, the use of reason, and a teacher named Jesus who was 100 percent human. As we celebrate the 200 th anniversary of Unitarianism in the U.S., let’s consider the ongoing role of stirring discomfort, including our own.
