Soul Kids
Soul Kids
Kindergarten through Grade 5 Religious Education follows a program called Soul Kids.
Soul Kids has been making use of the children’s materials from the Soul Matters program, a theme-based ministry program for Unitarian Universalist congregations.
In the 2024-25 church year, Soul Kids is exploring the the Article II values (pluralism, interdependence, generosity, equity, justice, transformation, and love, plus kindness) through the Lego ValUUes Curriculum. Each session includes an opening circle with an opening question and centering exercise, a story with discussion prompts, and a choice of play activities that carry out the theme of the day (including at least one simple LEGO build). Read more about this curriculum here: https://www.uua.org/re/article2/lego-valuues
Soul Kids takes place during service every Sunday, unless there is an all-ages Circle Service (once per month), when we are all together in the sanctuary as an inter-generational community.
Join us this Sunday! Not sure what to do? Please sign-in at the RE Welcome Table as you enter the Welcome Hall at UUSS and then join us for the beginning of service. After the chalice lighting, the congregation will sing our song: “One Foot” (by Melanie DeMore), and then we will exit the sanctuary together to circle round in our classroom.
A team of adult volunteers work with RE Coordinator, Crystal Fountain to present the Soul Kids program. All adult volunteers have current background checks on file at UUSS. At least two, unrelated adults are assigned to classrooms with minors. Parents/guardians are always welcome to stay with their child(ren) in the RE classroom and every child can choose to re-join their parent/guardian in the service at any time.
