April Leadership Update

Posted by Victoria Owens

Posted on April 14, 2025

The UUSS volunteers serving in leadership positions wish to keep the congregation updated about current and upcoming conversations. In this message, you will find updates from your Board of Trustees, Program Council, and occasionally Nominating Committee and Endowment Trust.

New Leaders: The Nominating Committee appreciates those who have stepped forward, expressing interest in our elected leadership roles. We believe we have a great slate of candidates to send to the Board and put before the congregation.

Strategic Plan Revision: The proposed revisions to UUSS’s 5-year strategic plan will be in your Annual Congregational Meeting packet. The packet will be emailed and will be available on the website by April 27.

Congregational Meeting: The UUSS Annual Congregational Meeting will be held Sunday, May 18, 2025, at 12 Noon, following Sunday Service. The meeting is an important occasion to vote on our annual budget and the updated Strategic Plan and elect congregational leaders. Only members may vote; if you’re not sure whether you’re a member, please check with the office at least 2 weeks prior to the meeting. Non-members are welcome at the meeting. Stay after service on April 27 to attend a forum to discuss the 2025-26 Budget and the revisions to the Strategic Plan, ahead of the vote in the congregational meeting.

Feedback Request: The Program Council is seeking feedback regarding how post-service events and activities (for example, Coffee or Soup Sunday) can better accommodate our members and visitors with mobility challenges. Please contact us at  with your thoughts, suggestions, and offers of help.

General Assembly: Our denomination’s annual conference, known as General Assembly, includes inspiring worship, insightful workshops, and community-building experiences as well as the business of the greater denomination, the UUA. If you would like to attend as a UUSS delegate, either in person in Baltimore, or online in our FAHS room, UUSS will pay $410 towards your registration fee. The dates are 6/18-6/22. Contact Rev. Roger or Board Member Sally Wilkins soon! Learn more at uua.org/ga.

Apply for Endowment Trust Funds: Does your committee or program have an idea for a project that would deepen lives or be a force for healing? Since 1980 generous UUSS members have contributed to an Endowment Trust, a small percentage of which is intended to be released annually. For this church year the amount is around $10,000. These are NOT ongoing funds. They are one-time only funds intended for special and non-recurring projects for the betterment of the UUSS community. Request funds: uuss.org/endowment to submit your proposal and budget. Applications due June 1, distributed by July 31. Questions?.

The Spring Pledge Drive began March 30 and runs through this Sunday, April 13. Please make your pledge at: www.uuss.org/pledge . If you have questions, you can email: .

UU Pacific Western Region’s Annual Meeting May 29: The Pacific Western Region of the UUA is a new organization, replacing UU districts which have merged. The PWR includes 203 congregations and a few UUA-affiliated communities.  It works closely with UUA field staff who serve congregations in this Region. The PWR has its first annual meeting, online, on Thursday, May 29, 7:00 to 8:00 Pacific Time. UUSS has 8 delegate slots, just as we do for GA. Please contact Rev. Roger if you are willing to serve as a delegate or have any questions. The PWR uses the model of dynamic governance, also known as sociocracy (www.sociocracyforall.org/sociocracy/)

Treasurer’s Report: Treasurer Victoria Owens reported that all is well with UUSS finances. The Treasurer’s report can always be read online on our website. Go to the Members menu option, click on Board of Trustees, then Treasurer’s Report. To read the Detailed Financial Reports, members need a password, which the office can provide.

How to get in touch with your volunteer leaders:

  • Your elected Board of Trustees meets monthly. Our next meeting will be Thursday, April 24th, 6:30 pm, on Zoom and in the library. You are welcome to join us by accessing the same Zoom link as the Sunday morning services. The Board’s role is to oversee issues of UUSS finances, facilities, personnel and long-range planning; it makes decisions on policies rather than management decisions.  You can find more information about the board and read the minutes and Treasurer’s report here http://www.uuss.org/board/ To contact the Board email Board@uuss.org.
  • The Program Council meets on Zoom the third Thursday of each month. Persons interested in attending a meeting or contacting the Program Council co-chairs can email.
  • Feel free to engage any committee member from the Nominating Committee. They have yellow name tags. You can always reach them by email at
