Scholar and minister Jay Atkinson returns for another lively discussion hosted by Rev. Roger. We’ll have a presentation by Jay and time for questions and conversation.
Jay writes: “A great source of confusion in our UU theological dialogue with one another is how we use (and, I would argue, misuse) the word agnostic. I suggest that all of us Unitarian Universalists are, or should be, agnostics. I suggest at the same time, that agnostic is not a theological option, for us or for anyone. Confused? My answer is that it’s all a question of adverbs.
Rev. Dr. Jay Atkinson is a scholar of UU history and theology. He has had lively audiences when leading discussions here at UUSS about Process/Relational Theology and the history and legacy of Unitarianism in Poland in the 16th century. He is minister emeritus of the UU Church of Studio City, CA. Earlier, Jay served UU congregations in Davis, CA, and Sioux City, Iowa. A native of Indiana, he grew up Methodist and did graduate study in physics before becoming a UU and going to Meadville Lombard Theological School.
Sponsored by the Adult Enrichment Committee as a special feature of the Wednesday night series Exploring Unitarian Universalism. Suggested donations of $10-$30 suggested will support honorarium for guest speakers and other expenses of UUSS Adult Enrichment Programs: uuss.org/donate for PayPal or 2425 Sierra Blvd., Sacramento 95825 by check.
