As Rev Lucy shared in the service on April 24th, we as a church community can be advocates for the thousands of unhouse people in Sacramento who struggle every day to find safe shelter, food, or simply a place to go to the bathroom. While they are powerless, we are not! Her compassionate call to action inspired over 50 people to sign up immediately.
Right now we have the power to influence the Board of Supervisors priorities as they continue to allocate funding from the American Rescue Plan Act. While money has been set aside for short term solutions to assist the unhoused in the Sacramento area, more money should be allocated for long term housing programs.
IT’S A PIECE OF CAKE! NO EXPERIENCE NEEDED TO BE AN ADVOCATE! On Sunday, May 15 after church, members from Public Health Advocates (PHA) (www.phadvocates.org) will provide training to teach us how to become impactful advocates with local jurisdictions. What we learn will equip us with the skills to be advocates for other issues in the future. Light lunch snacks and of course, a piece of cake, will be served at the training session.
Do it now… sign up as an advocate by sending an email to . Avoid the dreaded ailment of FOMO (fear of missing out)! For the next two Sundays there will be an information and sign up table on the patio during coffee hour and another one located outside the front door.
