April Update from the Board

Your elected Board of Trustees meets monthly. Our next meeting will be Thursday, April 28, 7 pm. Our meeting will take place in the UUSS library and also on Zoom, depending on personal needs and preferences. You are welcome to join us accessing the same Zoom link as the Sunday morning services.
We think it is very important to keep the congregation updated about current and upcoming conversations. The Board’s role is to oversee issues of UUSS finances, facilities, personnel and long-range planning; it makes decisions on policies rather than management decisions.
You can find more information about the Board and read the minutes and treasurer’s report here.
Kathleen Mead, co-chair of the Stewardship Campaign, reported that the theme this year is Meeting the Moment: Tending to Community, which
“. . . truly expresses our mission here at UUSS. We are here now, taking care of ourselves, each other, and our wider community. . . .“ March 27 was the campaign kick-off date and we are all encouraged to pledge soon. New this year is the possibility to simplify our bookkeeper’s work by setting up payments through Vanco Payment Solutions. You can get more information and also submit your pledge here.
Please Save the Date for the May 22 Congregational Business Meeting, after the Sunday service.
The Board reviewed a draft of the July 1, 2022 to June 30, 2023 budget, which is to be presented at the upcoming Congregational Meeting following the service on May 22. The Meeting will also be the opportunity for members to elect candidates to fill upcoming vacancies for your Board President, Vice President, Secretary, and at-large positions. Appreciation is extended to the Nominating Committee for recruiting these candidates.
Discussion of the Board-appointed Homelessness Resource Assessment Task Force goals focused on the importance of helping the needy and struggling homeless people in our midst. In order to make decisions regarding how best to help, we must have a policy in place that clearly states specific ways in which UUSS responds to our homeless kin. This policy will offer guidance to staff who sometimes get requests to use our facilities in one way or another. The policy will also take into consideration the concerns of neighbors and UUSS congregants.
Please consider volunteering for the Homelessness Task Force at . They need more voices around the table as they tackle this crucial work.
Racial Justice Conversations, Second Sunday of each month at 9:30 am. Come for lively, thought-provoking discussion on issues of racism, particularly as exhibited within the dominant culture.
The Administration and Property Management Committee is moving forward with plans for the Meadow Project.
Please consider donating a service or activity for our upcoming “Let’s Have Fun!” online services auction. Possible offerings include dinners, hikes, art classes, various services, etc. The deadline for service/activity donations is April 10. Bidding will take place online between Saturday, April 23, and Monday, May 2. Donation form here.
