October Update from the Board

Your elected Board of Trustees meets monthly. Our next meeting will be Thursday, October 27 at 6:30 pm. Our meeting takes place in person in the UUSS library and on Zoom. You are welcome to join us by accessing the same Zoom link as the one used for the Sunday morning services.
We think it is very important to keep the congregation updated about current and upcoming conversations. The Board’s role is to oversee issues of UUSS finances, facilities, personnel, and long-range planning; it makes decisions on policies rather than management decisions. You can find more information about the Board and read the minutes and treasurer’s report here: uuss.org/board.
Updated COVID Policy
The Board strongly encourages masking in the sanctuary when possible, and to respect the concerns of others. However, as of October 9, a week from this Sunday, the Board will no longer require masks. As of last Sunday, September 25, UUSS will no longer check for proof of vaccination. A section of the sanctuary will be reserved for masked individuals only, to respect those who wish to remain surrounded by others who are masked. Please ask those near you before removing your own mask. And we recommend continued practice of those other actions that make a difference in keeping us all healthier: keep social distancing, wash your hands often, get vaccinated (including a flu shot!), test when needed.
Appreciation
The Board would like to thank the Program Council for hosting the Activities Fair that was held on September 11 at UUSS. The event was well attended and all UUSS committees, programs, and groups were well represented.
Opportunities
The fall service auction will take place on November 12, and the auction committee is in need of volunteers for various tasks that require a few hours. Please consider volunteering for this fun and vital role. Interested? Please email to volunteer or if you have any questions.
Information from the September Board Meeting
The Board had a retreat in August. The retreat was instrumental in helping the Board focus the priorities for the next church year. The Board will focus on the following four goals for the next year: leadership development/volunteer recruitment, staff policies and compensation, communications, and social justice ministry.
The Board held a meeting in September. Karen and Meg Gunderson reported to the Board on their UUA General Assembly attendance. They found attending the GA very fulfilling and would like to see more UUSS members to attend in future Assemblies. The Board also heard from them how the UUA as a denomination is taking seriously the report, Widening the Circle of Concern, and how the denomination is actively making changes in alignment with the report’s findings and recommendations. The Board thanks Karen and Meg Gunderson, Marion Randall, and Celia Buckley for serving as delegates from UUSS.
