Pandemic Emergency Response Funds–Recommended Organizations for Our Donations

Dear Members and Friends,
Many of us have received monetary transfers from the U.S. government as part of the crisis relief actions taken by Congress. Both of us are fortunate to work and grateful not to be in financial need.
If you also are in the position of not needing the federal assistance for your living expenses, please consider contributing part of your check—or all of it—to support people in urgent need. We recommend two local funds and two funds which are managed by our denomination, the Unitarian Universalist Association:
Sacramento Area Congregations Together Covid-19 Emergency Response Fund—This fund enables Sac ACT to make very small grants to the most at-risk local families. They include part-time, low-wage, and immigrant workers, and those without Unemployment Insurance. Federal support excludes all undocumented immigrant families; they get $0 from the crisis relief legislation. Yet immigrant workers contribute millions of tax dollars to our communities every year. Many of our immigrant and low-income neighbors work in the hospitality, retail and restaurant industries, which have been hit very hard. You may learn more and give at this link: sacact.org/donate. You may also send a check to Sac ACT, 2324 L St., Ste. 405, Sacramento 95816.
Donate4Sacramento Covid-19 Regional Response Fund—This fund supports area families (for food, childcare and rent assistance), unhoused residents, and not-for-profit and small business enterprises whose work and employees have been disrupted. You may give at this link: sierrahealth.org/donate4sacramento
You may also send a check to: Donate4Sacramento, Sierra Health Foundation, 1321 Garden Hwy., Sacramento 95833.
Unitarian Universalist Association Covid-19 Pandemic Response Funds—The Disaster Relief Fund assists UU congregations and their local community partners hit hard by the pandemic. The Living Tradition Fund helps UU religious professionals who lose income due to the pandemic or other hardships. You may read and give at this link:
uua.org/giving/areas-support/funds/covid-19-response You may also send a check: UUA Covid-19 Response, 24 Farnsworth St., Boston, MA 02210-1409.
Or call to donate by phone: 888-792-5885.
If you can help those who are vulnerable and stimulate the economy by putting your government assistance to work right away, thank you.
However, if you need it for your own urgent needs, we understand and wish you well.
We hope you are healthy and taking good care of yourselves.
Please be in touch with us if there is something you need. We have willing volunteers, and we are simply grateful to hear how you are doing. We are grateful for your presence and your care in these times.
We are grateful for you.
Yours in service,
Roger and Lucy
