Monthly Leadership Update to the Congregation
The UUSS volunteers serving in leadership positions want to keep the congregation updated about current and upcoming conversations. In this monthly message you will find updates from your Board of Trustees, Program Council, and occasionally from the Nominating Committee and Endowment Trust.
Board Guidelines and Goals for the new church year: The new Board met for a retreat in August to clarify goals for the coming year. We agreed to use as our framework the following three questions:
1. Is the issue within the purview of the Board? (e.g., is it about policy?)
2. Will this decision help the congregation thrive?
3. How can we best maintain transparency?
We set the following goals for the Board:
1. Improve communication, with particular attention paid to UUSS website
2. Consider updating the UUSS Strategic Plan; determine next steps as needed
3. Consider updating the UUSS Master Plan for Buildings and Grounds; determine next steps as needed
4. Encourage and participate in discussions of additional income streams; take action wherever possible
Accessible Activity Fair: If you attended Sunday’s Activity Fair you may have noticed how much more space was available on the patio. This was a result of the Program Council’s change in the Activity Fair guidelines which limited group participation to a single individual at a table. In prior years two or three representatives of a group might have been at a table. The additional space also brought the Fair into compliance with ADA space requirements for those using wheelchairs and walkers. PC Co-Chair Sean Fountain used precise patio measurements and Computer Assisted Design (CAD) to achieve the spacious new layout. The Program Council would like to express its thanks to Krystal Gollaher for providing logistical and moral support to the success of the 2024 Activity Fair and to Elaine Cooper for keeping our space schedules in line.
Rent out our beautiful facilities: We have wonderful facilities that are available for rental for weddings, parties, family reunions, work events, etc. Consider renting our many spaces (indoor and outdoor, different sizes) for your next event and tell everybody you know about them. Rentals bring us a needed source of income to help carry out our mission. Information about rentals is here on our website.
How to get in touch with your volunteer leaders:
Board of Trustees: Your elected Board of Trustees meets monthly. Our next meeting will be Thursday, September 26th, 6:30 pm on Zoom and in the library. You are welcome to join us by accessing the same Zoom link as the Sunday morning services. The Board’s role is to oversee issues of UUSS finances, facilities, personnel and long-range planning; it makes decisions on policies rather than management decisions.
You can find more information about the board and read the minutes and treasurer’s report here uuss.org/board. To contact the Board, email
Program Council: The Proram Council meets on Zoom the third Thursday of each month. Persons interested in attending a meeting can request contact information at
Nominating Committee: Feel free to engage any committee member from Nominating Committee. They have yellow name tags. Or stop by and check out their table when you see it. And lastly you can always reach them by email at
Feel free to leave a comment or question about this post.
