All-ages camp is postponed till 2023

For many years, UUSS families and members of all ages have spent a two-night weekend at the lovely Camp Norge in Alta, usually over a weekend in June. This year it will not be happening.
- Due to family needs, this year we don’t have our two lead coordinators for the camp. (The work involves recruiting for and doing the work of promotion, registration, planning, purchasing, communicating, greeting, and organizing events and cleanup.) I wasn’t able to find leaders to take on that role this year.
- The Sons of Norway organization has some significant water and plumbing issues this year, and it must restrict our capacity to only 50 people (instead of 100, which we usually have).
- The Program Council and I agree that if we were to have the camp at this reduced number, we would give first priority to pledging UUSS member families with children and then, if space remains, open it to adults not coming with children.
- The Sons of Norway has not made a commensurate reduction in charges for our exclusive use of Camp Norge for a weekend, so the average cost per person would double.
- It is also notable that the work involved in coordination of our camp weekend would be nearly the same for a group of 50 as for a group of 100.
- When I inform Camp Norge of our plans, I will ask them to put us on the calendar for next year, the weekend of June 9-11, 2023. I will post confirmation or change of that date when I have it.
- Let’s hope they can raise the money for the work so it will be available for our full use next year!
Save the date: While it’s not a weekend away, our Picnic and Games Day at UUSS is a time for all ages to be together for food, fellowship and fun on the meadow and covered patio at our church. See the posting for details and save Saturday, April 30, 2022, 11:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m.

The camp event was enormous fun, the one time I attended. I can only imagine the OVERWHELMING work it takes to put on such an event. I know what it takes to organize the auction and dinner. My imagination can barely wrap around a weekend camping event. Thank you to the previous organizers for their dedicated work.
I look forward to the game day and picnic on April 30th.
