Weekly Update, 2015W09

Greetings, 20s & 30s! It was great to see several of you at lunch this past Sunday. We had a chance to visit the UUSS campus to see the progress of the new building (it has walls now!), and then we made our way to Bento Box in Loehmann’s Plaza for lunch. There were seven of us in attendance. We managed to get five of us together for a photo, which you can see here.

We hope to see you at our next 20s & 30s Lunch in March. In the meantime, here’s what’s happening in and around our group.

Survey

We’d like to know a bit about your preferences and availability for 20s & 30s events. To that end, we’ve compiled a brief survey, which we hope you’ll complete. The more responses we have, the better we’ll be able to plan events that suit the needs of group members.

Hiking Trip?

A few group members have expressed interest in going hiking somewhere in the region. We’re looking for someone who would like to plan a trip sometime in the next few weeks. If you’re interested, send us an E-mail, or leave a comment here.

Installation of Senior Minister

The Rev. Roger Jones was called by our congregation to be our Senior Minister on January 26, 2014, and has now served in that role for over a year. It is a custom in our religious movement to mark such a call and its acceptance with a service of installation, wherein the minister and the members of the congregation join together in covenant to support the ongoing mission and ministry of our liberal religious community. Generally in attendance are members and friends of the congregation, UU ministers and lay leaders from other local congregations and from the denomination, and members of the wider community. The service of installation of the Rev. Roger Jones as Senior Minister to the Unitarian Universalist Society of Sacramento will take place on Sunday, March 8, 2015 at 4:00 PM, in the sanctuary of Sierra Arden United Church of Christ, 890 Morse Ave, Sacramento. All those who are able are encouraged to attend.

Let’s Play at Game Night

UUSS holds a game night on the second Friday of each month. This is a great opportunity to join in inter-generational community with game enthusiasts of all ages within the congregation. The next game night will take place on Friday, March 13, in the Fahs Room at UUSS, 2425 Sierra Blvd, Sacramento. Doors open at 5:30 PM, a potluck dinner begins at 6:00, and gameplay begins at 6:30. Games are provided, but if there is a specific game you would like to play, you are encouraged to bring it with you. If you are on Facebook, you can RSVP on our event page.

UUJMCA Event for Young Adults in Sacramento

If you’re between the ages of 18 and 35, and interested in the relationship between spirituality and social justice, you’re invited to attend a Spiritual Activist Leadership Training (SALT) conference, hosted by the UU Justice Ministry of California. The event will take place in Sacramento on March 14 and 15. More information, including contact information for the event hosts, can be found here.

UUs Assembled

The Unitarian Universalist Association General Assembly will take place from June 24 to 28 in Portland, Oregon. This annual gathering is the place where congregational delegates from across the continent come together to make decisions about the future of our association. More generally, it is a chance for UUs of all ages and from all walks of life to learn, act, and worship together. General Assembly will not return to the west coast for at least the next three years, so if you’re thinking of going, this may be a good year to do it. Registration opens on March 2. Watch this space, or the General Assembly website, for more information on registration, including volunteer and scholarship opportunities for those needing financial assistance to attend GA.

If you’re looking for something a little sooner, a little shorter, and a little closer to home, you might consider attending the Pacific Central District Assembly on Saturday, April 25, at the First UU Society of San Francisco. Watch this space or the PCD website for details about registration.
