Holiday Cards for Immigrant Detainees Dec. 16
Posted by Rev Roger
Posted on December 6, 2018
There are more than 160 detained immigrants at the Yuba County Jail in Marysville who will deeply appreciate receiving holiday cards. Faithful Friends~Amigos Fieles offers detained immigrants connection and support through a visitation program. We know everyone can’t be a visitor volunteer, but we are glad if you are able to join us in sending cards of compassion.
The fourth yearly card-writing event will be held in the Foyer of UUSS after the service on December 16. Cards will be provided. Your support with stamps or money for postage would be greatly appreciated. For more information:

Sorry, the comment form is closed at this time.
Thanks! I was pleased to find a book donation option, and the Amazon link was perfect. Thanks to you all for doing this.

This holiday season, Faithful Friends has organized a book drive for immigration detainees in Yuba City. As you can imagine, detention is an extremely lonely, scary, and depressing experience. It is isolating and dehumanizing. One thing that we as allies can do is help give these folks “something to do”. Immigration detainees do not have access to programs designed to rehabilitate those serving sentences. In theory, they aren’t in detention long enough to justify the expense of providing programs. However, the reality of an overburdened immigration court system means that many languish in detention for months and even years. Books are absolutely vital as an escape from the realities of immigration detention.
These are books requested by folks in detention, in collaboration with the visitation team. Please take a look, order a couple books, and be sure to have them shipped off to the “Multiculturalism Rocks!” address.

Any requests for children’s books?
Thank you for asking. While some of the ICE detainees do have children, their kids are not in detention at the Yuba County Jail. The policy for donating books to detainees is restrictive in my understanding; that is, you can send books only through Amazon. If Susan has more information, she’ll post it as a comment or a reply here.
Is there a certain list of books or designated books there to purchase? If not, what type of books are wanted?Maybe I have some to send or could buy them used…..possible/not? thanks
Thank you, LaRue. See my posting below. My understanding is that they have to be sent via Amazon.
