Sponsoring & Accompaniment
with Transgender Asylum Seekers
The Immigrant Justice group at UUSS is proud to be able to work together with many local immigrant groups, including NorCal Resist. NorCal Resist does amazing local grassroots community organization, and one important area they support is the Sponsorship and Accompaniment for Trans Asylum Seekers.
NorCal Resist works with the Santa Fe Dreamers Project, which represents hundreds of young women detained in horrendous conditions. One way allies can support these women is through sponsorship. Santa Fe Dreamers Project can successfully petition for their release from detention with the help of people from loving homes who are willing to provide support to a woman while she seeks political asylum.
This is a huge and radically generous commitment. NorCal Resist is growing a “community accompaniment” network, that will support asylum seekers and sponsor families. Our accompaniment volunteers attend court, ICE check-ins, and other events with our undocumented and asylum seeking community members– it is one way that we can literally stand with our migrant community members.
Join us for an important training and discussion. Asylum seekers and hosts will speak.
