UUSS Stands in Solidarity with Immigrants
There was a large UUSS presence Saturday morning June 30 at the “Families Belong Together” rally and protest against the current immigration policies of the federal government. We joined the call to end the separation of families, to end family detention, and to fight back against zero-tolerance policies which have resulted in asylum seekers at the border and immigrants all over the country being unfairly and inhumanely treated. There have been estimates of 4000 people attending. UUSS members and friends gathered in front of the Immigration Building at 650 Capitol Mall. It was HOT, but we were there!
Of the many signs, one that my daughter pointed out to me will stay with me. A young person held aloft this message “If you build the wall, my generation will tear it down”. There is hope for a future without racism, xenophobia, and the demonization of the “other”. There is work to be done.
