Our UUSS-hosted Sacramento ACT Environmental Justice Committee is working to get the word out about our ACT fund to help those in our area who are now most at risk, including undocumented who are getting $0 in federal relief event though they as a group pay billions in taxes.

This Fund will enable us to make small mini-grants to families and individuals in Sacramento and Yolo County to assist with paying essential bills such as food, rent, utilities, and supplies during this time. The Fund is targeted to help those who are most at risk: undocumented, low-wage, part-time or hourly workers without sick days or unemployment insurance and their families. We need to make sure that everyone can stay home if they get sick, and can pay their rent and support their families if they are laid off, lose hours or if their workplaces close.

Last week the federal government approved a $2 trillion emergency stimulus package, including an immediate cash transfer of $1,200 for most American adults. It includes $0 for undocumented immigrants.

Immigrant workers contribute billions of dollars in annual taxes, yet undocumented and mixed status families are excluded from this relief effort.

Right now, immigrant workers across our region are out of jobs in the hard-hit hospitality, retail, and restaurant industries. Many more continue to sustain essential industries to protect and feed the entire country during this unprecedented time.
