Unitarian Universalist Society of Sacramento (UUSS) and Sacramento Area Congregations Together
Canvassing in West Arden Arcade
Saturday, October 20, 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., @ UUSS, 2425 Sierra Blvd.
Join us to have first hand experience with the diverse people in our neighborhood of West Arden Arcade and to help raise their voices by hearing their concerns and getting out the vote!
We will canvass in West Arden-Arcade with two purposes:
- Get out the vote and voter registration
- Listen to people’s concerns and let them know about upcoming workshops in their neighborhood – Sacramento County staff is seeking their ideas about how to make the community environment a better place to live and work.*
We will meet at 9:00 a.m. for an hour of coffee, snacks and training. We will learn about some of the environmental hazards facing the neighborhood we canvas. Gabby Trejo, Executive Director of Sacramento ACT, will teach us how to canvass, including role playing, and answer any questions. After canvassing we’ll come back to UUSS for lunch and debriefing.
*In September 2017, the Sacramento County Board of Supervisors designated West Arden Arcade as an “Environmental Justice Community.” An Environmental Justice Community is one with high percentages of people of color, low-income resident and/or immigrant communities that experience higher levels of environmental hazards and resulting health problems. Sacramento County staff is holding Environmental Justice workshops to develop a plan to address inequities in this and other Environmental Justice Communities in Sacramento County.
Please join us to engage with the West Arden Arcade neighborhoods and help to amplify their voices and address the inequities!
