We at UUSS work with our Sacramento Area Congregations Together (Sac ACT) Environmental Justice Committee to identify and change conditions that create environmental racism and injustice. In July and August 2018 a workgroup from this committee is investigating the conditions that create environmental injustice in our own area of West Arden-Arcade.
On May 8, 2018, the Sacramento County Board of Supervisors designated West Arden-Arcade as an “environmental justice community.” An environmental justice community is one with high percentages of people of color, low-income residents and/or immigrant communities that experience higher levels of environmental hazards and resulting health problems.
We hope you can join us after services on Sunday, October 7, so that we can share with you what we have learned. Details to come!
