After Sunday service for the next four weeks Hally Cahssai and the Interfaith Earth Justice group will be collecting signatures from City of Sacramento UUSS members and friends for the Sac Kids First initiative.
Sac Kids First is launching signature gathering for a proposed March 2020 Measure. There will be 55,000 signatures that need to be gathered in the next six months. The city currently spends less than 1% of annual revenues on children and youth. During economic downturns, these funds are usually eliminated.
What the coalition is asking for in this Measure:
- 2.5% of all City of Sacramento annual unrestricted general fund revenue allocated to the Sacramento Children’s Fund.
- Sacramento Children’s Fund to equitably distribute funding to children, youth, and their families with the greatest needs.
- We want the Sacramento Children’s Fund to fund programs and services, including family-based services.
- We want the Sacramento Children Fund to fund public agencies and non-profit organizations through an open and transparent competitive bid process.
- We want the Sacramento Children’s Fund to be overseen by a citizens’ oversight commission comprised of youth (up to 24 years old) and adults who reflect the demographic make-up of Sacramento’s children and youth, and who have professional expertise in youth development, work-based learning, and/or delinquency prevention.
