Memorial Service 1:30 pm, Sunday, Aug. 20. We extend our condolences to the loved ones of our member Virginia Mainzer Feagans. She died peacefully last week at age 96. An only child, she grew up in the Midwest. She attended the University of Chicago at age 16, with a full scholarship. Her family moved to California and she served as a teacher in grade school and later taught adults learning ESL. She was a Master Gardener from the UC Extension’s first graduating class. She and Bob Feagans married in 1949; they lived in Placerville in a geodesic dome for 27 years and then moved back to Sacramento. They joined UUSS in 1961. Their son, Tom, died as a teenager, and Bob died 8 years ago. Virginia is survived by daughters Paula Feagans, Amy Feagans, and Ann Sullivan, and two grandchildren. Her memorial service and reception at UUSS will take place Sunday, Aug. 20, at 1:30 pm. Memorial contributions to honor Virginia are invited to the Save the Redwoods League, ARNA, or the Heritage Fund at UUSS.

My husband and I remember dear Virginia as a kind and loving neighbor and friend. She and her husband pulled our Swansboro community together with regular potlucks and frequent brunches. Always uplifting and encouraging in her demeanor and spirit, we thought she represented some of the best of her generation. Major condelences to her daughters and families. She was a pip and we thought the world of her and also husband, Bob. Hugs of comfort and blessings to all the family.
