We extend our condolences to Marilyn Jio and Larry Tool on the death of their father, former UUSS member Marc Tool, who died December 14 at age 97. Lillian Tool, his wife, died in 2014.
A native of Nebraska, Marc served in Italy in World War II. After earning a Ph.D. from the University of Colorado, he served as a professor of economics, first at San Diego State and then at Sacramento State (from 1955-83). In retirement he taught half time until 1991, when memory loss was taking its toll on him. He was active in the Forum at UUSS, among other programs. He leaves behind children Marilyn and Larry plus grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
His memorial service at UUSS will be held in the Welcome Hall at UUSS Sunday, Feb.. 3, at 3:00 p.m., with Roger Jones officiating. Memorial contributions to honor Marc’s life of teaching, service and activism may be made to the ACLU of Northern California, the UUSS Heritage Fund, or a local Alzheimer’s or Parkinson’s disease-related charity.
