Hello UUSS friends!
Last Thursday during my take-out dinner prepping at Placerville’s Upper Room, after a major snow and rainstorm, a guest came in barefoot! She was very cold and seeking wool socks, boots, and a poncho. Thankfully our community up here is very giving, and we set her up to go back out to her tent in the woods off the highway more warm and dry than before. I was reminded of our “mercy pedlars” and the many homeless in Sacramento and elsewhere. And all their struggles are made worse by our pandemic.
So I’m sharing a touching song by Matthew West, “My Own Little World,” which reminds me of the homeless people we see as we exit highway 50 or highway or go downtown or around Arden, not that far from UUSS. This is a special cover version –although West’s acoustic youtube is great — because it’s Pastor Dan Spacek and Music Director Richard March inside the 1st UCC church of Auburn, where I’m returning as a member after I retire March 1st. (I was their music person from 2008 – 2014)

And Imagine my delight when these two friends sang “We Shall Be Known” a couple Sundays ago (pre-recorded!) This theme song of ours and a Rev. Lucy favorite was brought to Dan’s attention by his wife Andrea, a yoga instructor & massage therapist in downtown Auburn (re-opening soon?)

Hah! thought you’d get away without puns!!?
I know a lot of jokes about retired people. . . but none of them work!
Why don’t drummers come out of retirement? Too many repercussions (that’s for Tom Voigt)
What happened when Sting retired? He changed his name to Stung.
