The Joy of Campfires

keith-guitarMany of us remember campfires fondly — dreamily watching the flickering, dancing flames, toasting marshmallows and making “s’mores,” singing silly (and sometimes serious) songs, telling jokes, and shivering a bit, perhaps caused by the cold night — or more likely the scary stories of bears and ghosts! It’s no surprise that people everywhere have gathered around an open fire for millennia. As a young lad, I camped with my family, and later with Boy Scouts, but hardly ever with a church community.

But our wonderful Camp Norge provides us with the best of outdoor experiences, including campfires. This is the place for fellowship among friends, lots of singing and guitar strumming, a talent show for all ages, and especially a time for connecting as UU family and enjoying the glories of nature away from the city. I look forward to seeing many of you around the fire. Be sure to bring some firewood as well as your appetite for dessert treats and fun, and let me know your favorite campfire songs!
