Finding Light On The Parkway, Thursday, April 16, 2020

Hi, Folks,

Red-eared slider turtles are abundant on the American River. This sub-species of pond sliders is not native to our locale, but for many years, it has been available to purchase in pet stores. Red-eared sliders, kept as pets, have often been released from captivity and have thrived in the Parkway. The name of this turtle comes from the red slash near the ear position, and the fact that, when threatened, they slide extremely quickly into the water from their perches on logs and rocks.

Apparently remembering their yoga class with the great egret a few days ago, this red-eared slider family emerged from their shells at the break of a beautiful day, and here they are in the midst of a sun salutation.

Perhaps consider emulating the turtles and greet this moment with a good stretch and some satisfying deep breaths before taking on the rest of the challenges of your day.

Dave
