Make A Difference On UU’s Parkway Mile This Saturday, August 10

A young girl walked on a beach upon which thousands of starfish had washed up in a storm. When she came to a starfish, she picked it up, and threw it back into the ocean. She did this for some time when a man approached her and said, “Little girl, why are you doing this? You can’t make a difference to all these starfish!” The girl thought about the man’s remark. After a few moments, she bent down, picked up another starfish, and hurled it into the ocean. Then she looked up at the man and said, “I made a difference to that one!”
We can’t possibly pick up all the trash on the American River Parkway, but together we can make a big difference, one piece at a time on the UU Mile. So, let’s meet, as usual, between 8:45-9:00 a.m. in the parking lot, next to the levee, at the end of Northrop Avenue, off Howe Avenue, behind Panera. We’ll sign in; I’ll issue trash bags and orient new folks, and we’ll spend one hour removing trash from the UU Mile. Then we’ll meet back at the levee stairway at 10:00 AM for a photograph of our crew. As always, Panera awaits us for refreshments and conversation after the cleanup, if you wish.
With thanks to Roger Olson for sending it to me, here’s a cartoon about our training program…
With much appreciation,
Dave
