To our Parkway Steward veterans and interested newcomers:
You are invited to come out this Saturday, June 12th, for our regular monthly cleanup on the “UUSS mile” of the American River Parkway!
We meet on the second Saturday of every month between 8:45-9:00AM in the parking lot, next to the levee, at the end of Northrop Avenue, off Howe Avenue, behind Panera. We sign in; trash bags are issued and new folks are oriented. We then spend one hour removing trash from the UU Mile. We meet back at the levee stairway at 10:00 AM for a photograph of our crew and the results of our efforts. Afterward, many of us continue the fun at Panera with refreshments and conversation. Remember to wear good shoes, bring gloves, a mask, perhaps a “grabber”, and your volunteer spirit…. this Saturday looks to be sunny and warm so dress accordingly.
Karen and I just went out within the last hour to check on the condition of “our mile” in light of all the grassfires which have been burning and bringing fire trucks to the area near Cal Expo and the Parkway. We are happy to report that on our mile it appears that there has been no significant fire damage although admittedly we did not do an absolutely thorough check. What we did observe were a lot of birds, including a pair of Western Kingbirds, on an active nest!
Looking forward to seeing you soon!
