Parkway Cleanup This Saturday, Sept. 8

Since the next Saturday is “Second Saturday”, the UUSS Parkway Stewards group will have a cleanup of the UU mile of the American River Parkway on Sept. 8. The pleasant weather and Labor Day activities have probably left us with much to do to help restore the beauty of our mile. As usual, we’ll meet between 8:45-9:00AM in the parking lot, next to the levee, at the end of Northrop Avenue, off Howe Avenue, behind Panera. We’ll sign in; I’ll issue trash bags and orient new folks; and we’ll spend one hour removing trash from the UU Mile. Then we’ll meet back at the levee stairway at 10:00 AM for a photograph of our crew and the results of our efforts. If you wish to continue the fun, then Panera awaits us for refreshments and conversation after the cleanup.
You may recall that our Parkway Stewards group was asked to host Soup Sunday at UUSS on November 4. Almost immediately after putting out the call for Chefs for this date, the following people stepped right up and proposed to deliver some delightful offerings. Many thanks to each of you listed below!
- Eric Ross: Curry Split-Pea Soup
- Margaret Licha: Moraccan Lentil Soup
- Nancy Gilbert: Carrot-Apple-Multi-Veggie Soup
- Gary Keill: Chile con Carne
- Tony VanCuren: New Mexico Green Chile Stew
- Jeff Voeller: Butternut Squash Soup
- Patricia Pratt: Chicken Noodle Soup with Vegetables
- Dave Dawson: Clam Chowder
- and: John Abbott: Cashier
- and: Bobbie Keill and Tamara Olson, Soup Sunday Coordinators (for all Soup Sundays!)
Lastly, here’s a Snowy Egret from the Parkway. If you listen very carefully to this beautiful bird, that raspy “scrawwk” you might hear translates, roughly, as, “Thanks for helping to clean up my home!”
