dave-dawson-awardDave Dawson is a UUSS member who coordinates our volunteers to clean up a mile section of the the American River parkway not far from church and not far from Panera (where he and his crew gather to collapse over coffee after their good deeds).  Among this and other acts of stewardship, Dave also takes gorgeous photographs of the landscape, and wild life in and around the river.  Recently the American River Parkway Foundation recognized him as the great steward we know him to be.

Here is their statement:

2018 Volunteer of the Year

Dave Dawson

The American River Parkway Foundation is proud to announce our 2018 Volunteer of the Year, Dave Dawson.

Dave’s love for the Parkway began in the 1970’s when he and his lovely wife, Linda would ride bikes with their daughters.  Since that time, he has been an avid steward, photographer and recreational user of the American River Parkway.

dave-dawson-award-2Dave is the coordinator for his church, Unitarian Universal Church and they are the Mile Steward of Mile 6N.  Every 2nd Saturday of the month Dave and his team venture out to their mile.  On average, they remove 400 pound of debris- not to mention water bottles and cigarette butts! The stewards have logged over 1,255 hours and Dave himself has over 477.5 hours!

The Foundation was thrilled to surprise him with the distinct honor and are so happy his wife and one daughter (Amy) could be in attendance!
