Great Egret, American River Parkway, 12-12-16

Hi, Folks,

The forecast for significant rain and wind tomorrow (Thursday) is expected to give way to clouds on Friday and a bright, sunny and very cool Saturday; thus, it looks like we can make up for skipping last Saturday’s rained out cleanup of the UU mile of the American River Parkway.

So, this next Saturday, Dec. 17, please consider joining us between 8:45-9:00 AM in the parking lot at the west end of Northrop Avenue, next to the levee, near Panera off Howe Avenue. If this will be your first time to assist, we’ll get your contact info and brief you on our cleanup activity. The crew will clean up trash from the Parkway until 10:30 and gather at that time at the foot of the levee stairway for a quick photo of the results of our work. Coffee and conversation afterward will be waiting for us at Panera if we choose.

I was in a kayak on the river before sunrise two days ago and for more than four hours was again captivated by the serenity of the place and the wild creatures within it. The Great Egret (above) in particular exemplified, for me, the kind of beauty that waits for us by the river if we are open to see it. I hope you have a chance to join us out there and lend a hand cleaning up the UU mile.
