Presented at the Congregational Meeting on Oct. 24, 2021.
The Program Council of UUSS is happy to recognize Bobbie Keill as our church’s Unsung UU Hero this year. Since joining UUSS with her husband, Gary Keill, several years ago, Bobbie has taken on major leadership responsibilities. Using her keen skills at organizing as well as cooking, Bobbie ran our Soup Sunday lunches for three years. She served as co-chair of our Stewardship/Annual Pledging Campaign one year, and as the sole chairperson the following year, and she created a Stewardship manual to bequeath to her successors so they wouldn’t have to reinvent the wheel every year.
Bobbie served as our church’s liaison to the River City Food Bank, including coordination of two successful diaper drives–collecting more than 10,000 diapers this year. Not only is she a faithful attendee of Sunday services, Bobbie has spoken in our services, including reflections about her experiences as a refugee in childhood after the Second World War. She has co-led an annual Communion Ceremony. She was the chair of the committee the recent ordination ceremony and reception for Rev. Sangye Hawke. She’s heading up the baking team for our Fall Gratitude Celebration fundraiser November 13, and we hope you all buy a ticket.
Bobbie and Gary are both involved in many activities here and are generous givers to the church through their pledges as well as donations for special appeals, and of course with tasty things to eat.
In short, Bobbie is a reliable organizer, steward, fund-raiser, soup-maker, baker, coach and supporter of her fellow volunteers. Moreover, she is a source of warmth and kindness to a growing number of friends at UUSS. Thank you, Bobbie!
