Fill Up the Board of Supervisors Meeting!
Tuesday, December 4, 2018
700 H Street
Sheriff Scott Jones has suggested that the Board of Supervisors adopt a newly worded Inspector General (IG) contract that reflects administratively convenient language suiting him, but ignores the IG’s access needs. The Board unanimously suspended consideration of any IG contract revisions and directed county counsel to return in a public hearing setting to explain her response to the question: is it legal for the Sheriff to restrict the IG’s access to county facilities and critical incident scenes, and what other options does the Board possess besides simply revising the IG contract; e.g., subpoena powers, charter revision, Grand Jury intervention, or a lawsuit? The hearing is scheduled for December 4, 2018.
Supervisor Phil Serna and Black Lives Matter Sacramento is challenging the community to overflow the chambers and keep the Board in session for hours if need be. Sheriff Scott Jones crossed a line when he decided to lock out the IG and keep him from doing his job. Now he needs to understand just how upset that has made his constituents.
Show up on Tuesday, December 4, 2018 to advocate for an unobstructed, independent review process by the Office of the Inspector General. The meeting begins at 9:00 a.m. and this item is tentatively scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Be there early! For more information, visit the Facebook event page.
