Racism in the “In”-justice System and the case of Armani Lee

Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2017

6:30 – 8:30 p.m.

UUSS Welcome Hall

The Showing Up for Racial Justice (SURJ) Sacramento Chapter will be discussing Michelle Alexander’s article, The New Jim Crow as well as the article, The Gentrification-to-Prison Pipeline by Lacino Hamilton, linking them to local cases of police brutality committed by the SacPD and Sac Sheriff’s departments as well as the local gentrification of Oak Park.

SURJ will then focus on the specific case of 28 year-old Armani Lee, who was brutalized by SacPD on February 10, 2017. Armani Lee was shot 6 times by a SacPD officer, and the officer then called Armani’s family to report him dead, BEFORE providing medical support. Armani Lee survived, thankfully, despite officers leaving him to bleed out on the pavement. Now he needs our support.

The main purpose of this event is to increase community awareness around Armani Lee’s case and to mobilize the community to attend his court date scheduled for Friday, Sept. 29 at 8:30 a.m.

UUSS members and friends are encouraged to attend.
