OWL is a series of age-appropriate sexuality education programs based on Unitarian Universalist values like respect for self and others, personal and social responsibility, and honest communication. The trained adult facilitators recently conduced the parent info session about the upcoming class, which is for grades 4-5-6. It will start in January 2023.
An OWL program for a given age cohort takes place every 2 or 3 years. (The class for grades 7-8-9 started in September.)
It is a supplemental program to regular Sunday school (Religious Education). OWL involves a commitment to participation and a financial commitment to help cover the costs of curriculum development and training of our adult volunteers. If you’d like to know more about OWL at UUSS, please visit our website: uuss.org/owl
If you’d like to read more about the background and creation of the curriculum by our denomination, you can click here: https://www.uua.org/files/pdf/o/owlflyer_4-6_2018.pdf
If you are interested in the 4-5-6 class, you may want to register as soon as possible, as there is a maximum of 10 kids, with priority going to children of members or pledging friends of the congregation. Please note that we are asking for a commitment to attend all sessions (except in case of a family emergency or child illness, of course).
Also, the mandatory parent orientation will take place after church on Sunday, Dec. 11, noon till 2:30. There will be lunch and after the first 20 minutes the kids will have childcare while the parents meet with the volunteer facilitators. But please register in advance to make sure there still is space for your child to participate.
