UUSS Refugee Support Team : September Update

As we begin our church year, our Refugee Support leadership has developed new annual goals for our service to our five families as we celebrate the successful accomplishments of last year’s many efforts, with gratitude to all of you who have been so generous and helpful. To name some of the most significant help we received : financial and in-kind donations; providing day jobs for our striving breadwinners; furthering educational success with weekly private tutoring for many of our kids and adults; assisting with our winter and summer drives; helping create our lovely Afghan dinner in May, and providing a very successful summer experience for our school-age kids with art, games, and activities at UUSS during the last month of their summer break!!!

World Music Concert

This exciting event is the first of our fabulous Fun(d)raising opportunities planned for the coming year.

Very soon you will receive a concert flyer with more details. At this Sunday’s Activity Fair, look for Mary McGown, our lead concert planner, at the Refugee Support table to find out about various ways you can assist with this benefit.

Recently our team applied for and was honored to receive a grant from the Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA) to support our work, including a matching grant for a dollar amount to be raised during the coming year. This year we will continue to strive to keep our families healthy, safely housed, supported with legal immigration assistance, and moving toward financial independence.

Watch this space for our next update later this month as we continue to build our team and opportunities for our UUSS members and friends to greet our wonderful families and provide critical assistance in meeting our goals.
