Compassion and War: Love Your Enemies?

On this Memorial Day Weekend, we consider that place where compassion has no quarter: military conflict. Knowing your enemies is crucial to stopping them (by violence), so caring about them is counterproductive. But why would Jesus of Nazareth and other spiritual prophets preach “love your enemies”? On this day of memory and in this time of hope, let us consider compassion and war…and peace.
