Deep is the Hunger: Howard Thurman’s Wisdom and Courage

by Rev. Dr. Roger Jones

Unitarian Universalist Society of Sacramento

Tuesday, February 23, 2021

The prayerful words of Howard Thurman (1899-1981) remind us that we all have an interior life and we belong to something larger than ourselves.  As the first Black chaplain at a white university, he ministered to grad student Martin Luther King Jr., instilling the philosophy of nonviolence.  In 1944, Thurman co-founded the first inter-racial, interfaith congregation, Fellowship Church, in San Francisco.  We’ll sample just a few of his legendary meditations tonight.
