While on sabbatical, Roger visited several Protestant and UU Sunday services—most of them attended by a fraction of their former numbers. Some Americans celebrate the steady decline in mainstream churchgoing, but others are worried. Is there a magic formula for local congregations? What are the lessons for those of us who still seek out, sustain, and enjoy a vital, caring community?
