August is the 100th anniversary of the U.S. Constitution’s amendment to guarantee the right to vote for women. It did not include Black women or Black men, however. Now, a century after the 19th Amendment and 55 years after the Voting Rights Act, voting remains a crucial part of a free society, but this right is at risk once again, at a very crucial time in this nation. Today let’s renew our faith in true democracy, in all its rough and stony challenges.
