Pastries, Politics, and Fellowship: 150 Years of UU Women’s Activism and Friendship

by Rev. Dr. Roger Jones

Unitarian Universalist Society of Sacramento

Sunday, September 16, 2018

Though limited in official power, women of UUSS found ways to benefit the church, improve Sacramento, and engage with global issues from the very early years. Rev. Roger highlights major events since the founding of our Women’s Alliance in 1911.
UU seminarian Sangye Hawke tells about the crucial work of Unitarian women in Santa Cruz in making Evergreen Cemetery available to marginalized people during the late 1800s, a time of racial violence, intolerance, and a brutal sex trade.

Stay for a reception honoring UUSS Alliance participants, with goodies made from our 1890 cookbook! (Note: Modern recipes used – we couldn’t find a gill measuring container!)
