Human beings have a close and complicated relationship with other animals, both domesticated and wild ones. Depending on species, geography, and era of history, they have been our pets, predators, and prey. We have considered them as members of the family but also sources of labor, entertainment, clothing, and food. Let’s look at the paradoxes and blessings of this ever-present connection.
