The Sacramento Area Regional Theater Alliance (SARTA) honors outstanding achievements in local community theater with the Elly Awards (named for the late Eleanor McClatchy.)
Theater One has received four Elly Award nominations this year:
- Lonon Smith, script for Treasure Island
- Norma Eugenio-Smith, costume design for Treasure Island
- Shaleen Schmutzer-Smith, as the Wicked Witch in The Wizard of Oz
- Jody Klemens, as the Guardian of the Gate in The Wizard of Oz
Although not a Theater One production, UUSS member Irwin Rosenblum has also been nominated for an Elly Award for his original script for Family Cabins that was produced at Howe Avenue Theater.
Elly Award winners will be announced at two ceremonies: September 9 at the Youth Elly Ceremony and on September 23 at the Adult Elly Ceremony. For locations and further information about the awards ceremonies contact sarta.com
In addition to the award nominations, two Outstanding Achievement certificates for Treasure Island were awarded to UUSS members Taylor Lewis (Long John Silver) and Tim Anderson (set design). The Wizard of Oz production also received Outstanding Achievement certificates for Tim Anderson (lights), Greg Smith (Scarecrow), Jerold McFatter (Lion), Julia Long (Dorothy) and Libby Harmor (costumes).
Congratulations to all!
