On June 14th at 9:00 a.m. we will be part of a Day of Action to urge the Sacramento County Board of Supervisors to make homelessness and housing solutions their top priorities for the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds. Even if you don’t feel comfortable talking at the Board meeting, show up and stand up for the cause. That sends a strong message of solidarity.
For those of you who are not available to participate in person, there are many ways to engage including sending an email, letter, or calling your supervisor. But we ask that you hold off on taking action until closer to our “day of action.” The impact of a message is much more powerful when it arrives at the same time with other voices, each sharing their personal concern and what specifically they want the board to consider.
Right now, the best way to get ready for June 14th is to further acquaint yourself with the issues. Here are some links that can help you become more knowledgeable and effective advocates:
- Check out our Advocates for Homeless page which has the recording of the training session on May 15th, copies of the slides, and an inspiring video.
- Read information to learn more about the county’s use of ARPA funds
- Know who your supervisor is…go to this link
The staff at Public Health Advocates will be providing us with an all the materials we need including talking points and email and letter template for those who cannot attend in person. We will be sharing those with you soon to help all of us get prepared for our day of action.
So let’s do it together; look for future emails with more instructions.
Questions? Contact the team at advocates@uuss.org.
There is strength in numbers….as Helen Keller said “Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much.”
